What is the Higher Purpose of Ramadan

The purpose of Ramadan is to save yourself from distractions, help you concentrate, increase your sensitivity, and enhance your ability to think and contemplate. After doing all of this, you have to recite the Quran, reflect over the Quran and study the Quran to discover its deeper meaning. This is the purpose of Ramadan.

A person was planning to for Umrah during Ramadan. He said that he spent a month there, and this time he was going for Umrah during Ramadan. He said that he didn’t have to spend even a penny there. The Haram organized meals on a large scale. The man said that one could eat and drink enormously during Ramadan and then return home. He was going to Makkah and Madinah in Ramadan, because provision for food and drinks was generously available at this time. This is what Ramadan has become. According to the lines of a Persian poem:

People's eating and drinking increased in the name of God-consciousness,

For them, Ramadan is nothing but feasting at iftar.

That is, people eat and drink even more in Ramadan. The purpose of Ramadan is lost completely. The goal of Ramadan is not achieved.
